Germany to Extend Security Mission in Afghanistan
21 September 2005 -- Germany's government today voted to extend by one year its military mission in Afghanistan with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.
German Defense Minister Peter Struck says the government also agreed to increase German troop levels in Afghanistan. He said the size of the force will be boosted to up to 3,000 soldiers from about 2,200.
The German Bundestag, or lower house of parliament, is due to give final approval to the extension next Wednesday.
