Blast Kills 18 At Afghan Base During Cheney Visit
February 27, 2007 -- Afghan officials say at least 18 people have died in a suicide bombing today at a U.S. military base where U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney is visiting.
Cheney's spokeswoman said the vice president was not injured in the blast, which struck the main gates of the Bagram Air Base north of Kabul. The Afghan Interior Ministry said the victims were 15 Afghans and three foreign soldiers.
Cheney is in Afghanistan for talks with President Hamid Karzai, rescheduled for today after a planned meeting was canceled on February 26 due to bad weather.
