Italian Newspaper Denies Reporter Kidnapped In Afghanistan Is A Spy
ROME, March 8, 2007 -- An Italian newspaper has rejected allegations that one of its journalists, who has been kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan, is a spy.

"La Repubblica" said in a statement that the correspondent, Daniele Mastrogiacomo, has no links to military organizations or intelligence services
from any country. The AFP news agency says it has received a voice recording of a man claiming to be Taliban commander Mullah Dadullah saying that a captured Italian journalist and two Afghans accompanying him have confessed to spying for
British forces.
