Germany, Japan Agree On Need For Further Afghanistan Support
TOKYO, August 29, 2007 -- Chancellor Angela Merkel says Germany and Japan agreed on the need to continue support for Afghanistan.

Merkel made the comments following talks in Tokyo
today with Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Abe said he would do everything to persuade the Japanese opposition to back the continuation of a naval support mission for U.S.-led operations in Afghanistan. Japan's navy has been refuelling coalition ships in the Indian Ocean since 2001 under a law that expires
on November 1.
