200 Taliban Surrounded, 50 Killed In Afghan Battle
October 31, 2007 -- Afghan officials say Afghan, U.S. and Canadian troops have surrounded up to 250 Taliban fighters in a district near the southern city of Kandahar.

Officials said some 50 Taliban fighters, three policeman, and one Afghan soldier were killed in the three-day battle for control of Arghandab district. Witnesses said hundreds of villagers were fleeing the area.

Taliban fighters moved into Arghandab last week following the death of a powerful tribal leader who had kept them out of his region.
