10 October 2004 -- An electoral official for Afghanistan's presidential election says that nearly 80 percent of Afghan refugees in Pakistan who registered to vote turned out to cast ballots, Reuters reported.
Peter Erben, head of the International Organization for Migration's (IOM) refugee voting operation in Pakistan, said his organization is "very satisfied" with the turnout figure, according to the news agency.
But Erben said the IOM is nevertheless disappointed with the turnout figures for registered women refugee voters, which he said was low.
Erben also said refugee voting in Iran also met the IOM's expectations, with more than half of the estimated registered refugee population there casting ballots.
